Tinned fish had its moment, and honestly it deserved it. There is something very satisfying about a sardine tin: the little key, the lid rolled back, the fish lined up neatly in their oil, and a label that looks like it has not changed in fifty years. A tiny bit of oil has escaped. It always does.

A good sticker for tinned fish people, for kitchen cupboards and lunch boxes, or for the water bottle of a friend who brings sardines to the office and does not care what anyone thinks. Woodhouse would approve.
