Almost-Famous: Our (non) moment in the sun on Grand Designs UK 😅

Almost-Famous: Our (non) moment in the sun on Grand Designs UK 😅

If you’ve watched the Grand Designs UK “Bedfordshire 2025” episode, you might not have spotted our work… because it didn’t actually make it to air. This is the story of how one of my prints almost had its TV moment on Grand Designs UK, and how it turned into something we still laugh about.

📧 It started with an email...

Back in October 2024, we got the email.  The email. The kind of email artists dream about. One of my art prints was going to be featured on TV!  The production team of Grand Designs UK contacted about showing one of my pieces in an episode!

You know the show. Big houses. Big budgets. People living in a shed for 6 months while everything gets delayed.

The piece they chose was The Hare.  The owners had already purchased it, and the production team reached out to clear the rights so they could show it in the episode. I signed the release immediately.  No hesitation whatsoever!

We talked about it for months, like kids waiting for Christmas!  "I wonder when it's going to be on TV?"  "I wonder what kind of room it'll be?"

And to be perfectly honest we made pests of ourselves emailing our production contact.  "Has it aired yet?  Do you know when?"

They told me it would air in spring 2025, but we didn't know anything more specific.  And in their defense, TV production is a complicated business so I'm sure they didn't know either!

Spring 2025: The Big Air Date (Sort Of)

Finally in April we got a response: "Sorry for the late reply. It's already aired.”

Wait. WHAT?!

It turned out to be the “Bedfordshire 2025” episode, which aired on 2 April 2025 on Channel 4. You can watch the full episode on their official YouTube channel, and there’s a magazine article about the house here.

We pulled up the episode on YouTube and watched it on our computers, pausing and rewinding like two overexcited detectives looking for clues. The house looked amazing. Gorgeous drone shots, dramatic barn conversion moments… we were glued to the screen waiting for our big moment.

Room one: nope.
Room two: still nope.
Room three: nope again.
Rewind back to room two: nada.

And then the credits rolled. My big moment was nowhere! Not even a blurry corner cameo. Somewhere in an edit suite in London, my print was snipped out of TV history.

I had a tiny moment of heartbreak, then immediately started laughing.  I went from “as seen on TV” to “as almost seen on TV” 😅

And it's nice to know that it hanging right there in that gorgeous Bedfordshire barn, even if it didn’t actually make the final cut. Honestly, being part of it at all still feels pretty special.

So that’s my almost-famous moment. My art was part of the Grand Designs UK “Bedfordshire 2025” episode. It just didn’t survive the edit.

Even though our TV cameo didn’t happen, it was still such a cool experience. I love knowing that one of my pieces was part of a Grand Designs UK project. If you want to see the print that almost made it to TV, check out The Hare.
